Mrs Sharp visits Gambia

February 2009

Callow End School is linked with Boraba Lower Basic School in Janjanburch.

The school already had a link with Castlemorton Primary School, which had been running over five years. However, the new Headteacher at Castlemorton, Janet Adsett invited us to join the partnership in 2008.

Since then I have been lucky enough to visit the school during the last two February half term holidays.

This year's visit we undertook a weaving project. The children from both British schools produced a piece of weaving to reflect the colours of our four seasons. We took these weavings with us as gifts and worked with the Gambian children on reciprocal weavings, based on their dry and wet seasons.

I also took a Kwik Cricket set with me and taught the teachers and pupils how to play cricket. This produced much hilarity and a lot of sweat on my part as the temperature was 38°C!
