We have had reports from parents that children playing online games in a closed group with other pupils at our school have been subjected to bad language and name calling. Due to the nature of the games it is understandable that children will get involved and excited as they play. However there is no excuse for not treating other players with respect and it is important that pupils feel able to join in the games with their friends without feeling worried that they may experience online bullying or abuse.
We would urge all parents to limit the time that their child spends playing online and that they monitor the game regularly to ensure that players are behaving appropriately. Advice leaflets about a range of e-safety issues are available on the Parents section of the website, including information and advice about Fortnite. Please note that the recommended age for this game is 12 years and above, therefore parents choosing to allow their child onto the game should be monitoring their activity closely.
Thank you for your help and support. We will continue to talk to the children about online safety regularly in school.
